A household running a kitchen renovation without a project manager
How a family can use one flow to keep a contractor, a budget, and a dozen deliveries in order across an eight-week kitchen refit.
This is an illustrative walkthrough of a typical situation, not a report about a named customer.
The situation
A kitchen renovation involves a handful of trades, long delivery times, and a family living in the house throughout. Most households manage it from a chat thread and memory, which works until two things need to happen in the wrong order.
The flow
Starting from the Room renovation template, the household keeps five phases: scope and budget, order and schedule, strip-out and repairs, install and finish, and sign-off. They add two steps of their own — setting up a temporary kitchen, and confirming the worktop template visit.
Each phase has a notes box. Quotes, the electrician's phone number, and the agreed paint colour go there rather than into a chat that scrolls away.
What changes
The gate between phases does the work. Cabinets are not ordered until measurements are confirmed. The final payment is not made until every item on the snag list is ticked. Anyone in the family can open the project and see exactly which phase the kitchen is in and what is left.
